Exeter had Ben Powell at number 6 but were otherwise at full strength while King’s Lynn had the unusual luxury of tracking a full strength team. This was King’s Lynn’s third visit to Exeter this season. Having lost by 35 points in the Premier Trophy and drawn 45-45 in the quarter final of the KO Cup it was hard to predict which way this one would go. This time the Stars only managed to provide three race winners all match so a 15 point defeat was not a bad result in the circumstances. Exeter got off to an excellent start. After an opening Lemon/Smethills 5-1 and a shared heat in heat 2 in which Ben Powell had to go from 15 metres back for tape touching the Falcons added a second 5-1 in heat 3 from Seemond Stephens and Ray Morton and a 4-2 in heat 4 won by Sebastian Tressarieu from Oliver Allen and Pavel Ondrasik. This took the score after four races to 17-7. As usual in these circumstances, King’s Lynn wasted no time in giving Tomas Topinka a TR in heat 5. However Seemond Stephens won the race with Topinka second and Troy Batchelor third ahead of Ray Morton. This meant that the Stars had taken a 3-5 advantage to cut the home side’s lead to 8 points. Mark Lemon beat Oliver Allen in heat 6 with Lee Smethills third for a 4-2 which restored Exeter’s 10 point advantage then Kevin Doolan became the first King’s Lynn race winner in heat 7 which was shared. In heat 8 Troy Batchelor took a TR. The first running of the race was stopped as Ondrasik came to grief on the first bend and it was all four back. In the rerun Batchelor took the TR win for all six points and with Ondrasik retiring King’s Lynn recorded a 2-7 which cut the home side’s lead to 5 points with the score after eight heats reading 29-24. In heat 9 the Stars provided the race winner for the third consecutive heat as Oliver Allen beat Ray Morton. With Seemond Stephens having fallen and been excluded the result was another advantage to the Stars this time by 2-4 to narrow the gap to three points at 31-28. However, that’s as close as King’s Lynn got. Mark Lemon and Lee Smethills took a 5-1 in heat 10 to increase Exeter’s lead to 7 points. Heats 11 and 12 were shared and the score after 12 heats was 42-35. Sebastian Tressarieu took a 5-1 in heat 13 as Tomas Topinka suffered an engine failure and Ray Morton won heat 14 for a 3-3 before Mark lemon and Sebastian Tressarieu finished the match by repeating their 5-1 success of heat 13 this time relegating Tomas Topinka to third place and ensuring that the King’s Lynn number 1 did not record a race win all match.
