Exeter went into this match seeking to pull back the 11 points by which they lost at Somerset last Friday. Once again they used R/R for Jernej Kolenko at number three while Somerset were at full strength.

It may have been an 11.00 am start for this match but there is still a distinct lack of information available on the heat details. Exeter got off to a flying start with an opening heat 5-1 from Mark Lemon and Lee Smethills from Magnus Zetterstrom. This was followed by a 4-2 in the reserves race then another 5-1 to the Falcons in heat 3 before Somerset finally got into the match with a shared heat in heat 4 won by Seemond Stephens. This took the score to 17-7 and Exeter were only one point from wiping out the first leg deficit.

It never happened though. They actually went one ahead on aggregate when they led 24-12 after heat 6. The Rebels rallied, however, and survived to take the bonus point by three points on aggregate despite two consecutive zeroes from Magnus Zetterstrom . They were helped by two TR rides from Glenn Cunningham and Jason King both of whom finished second for an extra two points each and two engine failures for Exeter in heats they lost 1-5. In the vital heat 15 Seemond Stephens trailed in last having dropped only one point from his other five rides and Somerset went home, perhaps unexpectedly, with the bonus.
