This match between Hull and Stoke was marred by a horrendous crash between Paul Pickering and Joel Parsons in heat 11 which resulted in both riders having to be taken to hospital, Pickering with a suspected broken upper arm.

Hull started off in fine style with two 5-1s in heats one and three sandwiching a Barrie Evans win in heat 2 for Stoke. A further 4-2 in heat 4 stretched the lead to 10 points at 17-7. Stoke hit back with a 2-4 in heat 5 from Pickering and Clews but another 5-1 to the Vikings in heat 6 from Paul Thorp and Emiliano Sanchez ahead of Jan Staechmann left the Potters trailing by 12 points at 24-12. A fine win for Alan Mogridge in a shared heat 7 was followed by a 4-2 for Hull in heat 8 taking the score to 31-17. But there was a shock in store for Hull in heat 9.

Jan Staechmann came out as a TR and was followed home by Rob Grant from Dicken and Kramer and the 1-8 reduced the deficit to 7 points at 32-25. Another win from Alan Mogridge in heat 10 kept Stoke in the hunt before the disastrous crash in heat 11 between Joel Parsons and Paul Pickering. Pickering was excluded from the rerun and Parsons was replaced by Craig Branney. Garry Stead won the heat from Paul Clews and Hull now led by 39-30.

By the end of heat 14 the Hull lead had increased to 11 points at 50-39 and a shared last heat which was won by Garry Stead from Alan Mogridge and Jan Staechmann took the final score to 53-42.

This is a respectable score for Stoke considering the hammerings they took from Newcastle on Saturday and Sunday and the fact that they lost Paul Pickering during the meeting.
