The Isle of Wight were again without Ulrich Ostergaard for this match and used R/R at number 2 while Hull still without Emiliano Sanchez used R/R at number 1. The Vikings had an 18 point lead to defend for the bonus point.

Although Hull were soundly beaten in this match the destination of the bonus point was not decided until the last heat when a maximum for the home side gave the Islanders all three points.

The Islanders had this match in the bag as early as heat 3 by which time they already had a 10 point lead. Craig Boyce beat Paul Thorp in heat 1 for an opening 4-2 before the Isle of Wight’s reserves scored a 5-1 in heat 2 and Krister Marsh and Glen Phillips followed suit in heat 3. Garry Stead won heat 4 for the Vikings for a shared heat and the score then stood at 17-7.

In heat 5 Paul Thorp took a TR and beat Glen Phillips for all six points. With Emil Kramer taking third place from Krister Marsh Hull scored a badly needed 2-7 to cut the gap to 5 points at 19-14. However consecutive 5-1s in heats 6 and 7 for the Islanders killed off any hopes the Vikings may have had leaving the fight now for the bonus point. In heat 8 Steen Jensen won for the home side but Hull filled the minor places for a shared heat to take the score to 32-19 with the Islanders now only 5 points in arrears on aggregate.

In heat 9 Garry Stead took a TR and his second place behind Krister Marsh earned Hull a 4-4. Heat 10 was shared too as Kramer and Branney followed Craig Boyce home then in heat 11 Hull took a heat advantage for the second time. Garry Stead beat Krzysztof Stojanowski and Paul Thorp finished third for a 2-4 but this was reversed by the Isle of Wight in heat 12 when Glen Phillips beat Craig Branney with Steen Jensen third. Emil Kramer had gone as a Tactical Substitute from 15 metres back in this heat but failed to score. The score at the interval after heat 12 was 45-32 and Hull still had a 5 point aggregate lead.

Paul Thorp split Boyce and Stojanowski in heat 13 as the home side’s 4-2 pulled another two points back but heat 14 was a killer for Hull when Marsh and Doyle took a 5-1 from Terenzani and Kramer. This increased the Islanders’ lead to 19 points and meant that they went in to the last heat with a one point advantage in the race for the bonus point. In the last heat Boyce and Stojanowski made no mistake adding another 5-1 to the total to take all three points.
