For this match the King’s Lynn Stars were strengthened by the inclusion of Jason Crump and Davey Watt at the expense of Troy Bachelor and Jan Jaros to face a powerful looking King’s Lynn Knights side which included Nicki Pedersen, Adam Shields, Steve Masters and Freddie Eriksson from the Elite League and another three Premier League heat leaders. In the end the Stars were no match for the Knights although they were not helped by two engine failures from Jason Crump.

Things looked bright for the Stars when they took a 5-1 in heat 2 from Allott and Brundle ahead of Masters and Kessler to move into a four point lead but that was as good as it got for them as they failed to take another heat advantage. With Nicki Pedersen unbeaten and plenty of support from Eriksson and the others it was no contest after heat 10. Two 2-4s in heats 3 and 6 levelled the scores and a succession of 3-3s followed until heat 10. Then the roof fell in.

A disastrous heat 11 saw James Brundle excluded under the 2 minute rule then engine failures for Adam Allott (his replacement) and Jason Crump gifted the Knights a 0-5 to Freddie Eriksson and Craig Boyce. Then Oliver Allen won heat 12 but James Brundle retired giving Shane Parker and Steve Masters a share of the points. In heat 13 another engine failure for Jason Crump saw the Knights take a 1-5 before Shields and Kessler took a 2-4 split by Davey Watt. Finally Nicki Pedersen and Freddie Eriksson wrapped things up in heat 15 with another 1-5 to give the Knights a 15 point win.

In order to give the two Stars’ riders who missed out some practice there were three match races in the second half between Troy Bachelor and Jan Jaros (plus Mallet and Lambert). All three were won by Troy Bachelor in respectable times.
