With Oliver Allen returning from injury King’s Lynn were at full strength. However they lost Ashley Jones who suffered concussion after a fall in his second ride. Newport too were in the wars. They used R/R for Mads Korneliussen at number 5 and lost Jason King with a shoulder injury after a fall in his first race.

King’s Lynn’s 64 point winning aggregate margin must surely be a record for the Premier League as they followed up their huge 23 point win in Wales with another hammering of the Wasps. Newport failed to produce a single race winner or heat advantage all meeting with the match effectively over after heat 4 by which time the Stars already led by 12 points.

Heat 1 turned out to be one of the visitors’ successes – they shared the points when Tommy Stange finished at the back after a ding-dong battle with Tony Atkin then followed three 5-1s for King’s Lynn for a heat 4 score of 18-6.

In heat 5 Henrik Vedel broke the tapes and went from 15 metres back then Ashley Jones fell on the second lap while lying second which caused him to be withdrawn from the meeting as a result of concussion. In the rerun Kevin Doolan won and the race ended up as another 3-3. Although Tomas Topinka won heat 6 it took him over two laps to pass Henrik Vedel as the Stars added another two points to their lead with a 4-2. Heats 7 and 8 resulted in 5-1s to King’s Lynn and the heat eight score was 35-13.

Neil Collins came into heat 9 as a TR and passed Jan Jaros for second place behind race winner, Kevin Doolan, for a 4-4. Another second place for Neil Collins behind Tomas Topinka resulted in another 4-2 for the Stars in heat 10. Then came the Troy Batchelor show. Batchelor had won his opening two races in heats 2 and 7 and now added heats 11, 12, 14 and 15 to complete a full six ride maximum.

This onslaught left Newport with very little by way of crumbs of consolation but they did manage two points in heat 12 which they lost 2-4 but would have shared had Neil Collins not had an engine failure. Two more points came their way in heat 13 but only because Henrik Vedel who finished third was on a TR before King’s Lynn ensured themselves a bumper pay night closing with two more 5-1s in the last two heats. Batchelor, Topinka, Doolan and Allen were all unbeaten by an opponent.
