With bonus points likely to be crucial for sides hoping to make the top two play-off places in the Premier Trophy King's Lynn will probably be a bit disappointed only to finish seven points ahead against Somerset after having rattled into a ten point lead after just four races and still leading by 13 points with only three heats left. Both teams were at full strength for this match.

After a Magnus Zetterstrom win for a shared first heat the Stars stormed to a 17-7 lead with two 5-1s and a 4-2 over the next three heats. Heat 5 is often the recovery heat for a team which makes such a poor start since their number 1 is always out in this heat away from home and can take a TR. Such was the case tonight and Magnus Zetterstrom made it clear he was going to be a thorn in the King's Lynn flesh all night by winning his TR. When Adam Allott suffered an engine failure Jamie Smith picked up the third place point for a 2-7 to the Rebels to claw the score back to 19-14.

The next two heats were drawn before the Stars stretched their lead to nine points by winning heat 8 by 5-1 thanks to Troy Batchelor and James Brundle ahead of Jamie Smith. A nine point deficit for the Rebels meant it was TR time again and, sure enough, out came Glenn Cunningham wearing the black and white helmet cover. Although Adam Allott won the heat Cunningham finished ahead of Kevin Doolan for a 4-4 to take the score to 34-25 at the interval.

After the tea break King's Lynn's Tomas Topinka won heat 10 but James Brundle retired so the heat was shared but it looked as though the Stars were going to build up a decent lead for the away fixture when they won heats 11 and 12 by 4-2s to take the lead to 13 points at 45-32. In heat 11 Oliver Allen became the only rider on the night to beat Magnus Zetterstrom. However Somerset rallied and took 2-4s in each of the last three heats with Zetterstrom providing the race winner to heats 13 and 15 and Paul Fry doing likewise in heat 14. This reduced the winning margin by six points and the Stars had to settle for a narrower win than had looked likely earlier on.
