After their fine win last night Newcastle again set about Stoke in fine style. Both teams were at full strength.

As a contest this challenge match was dead and buried after Newcastle’s win at Stoke last night but any lingering hopes Stoke may have had disappeared as the Diamonds overwhelmed them from the start. An opening heat 4-2 to the home side was followed by a 5-1 in heat 2 and the rout continued for the rest of the match.

Alan Mogridge took a TR in heat 7 as the Potters trailed 24-12 but failed to score as Lubos Tomicek and James Grieves won the race and Paul Clews did likewise in heat 8 as Christian Henry and Jamie Robertson also took a 5-1. The only joy which came Stoke’s way came in heat 15 when Jan Staechmann and Alan Mogridge took a 1-5 from Claus Kristensen and Jamie Robertson since up till then they had lost seven 5-1s and four 4-2s, the other three heats being shared.

Every Diamonds rider had at least one heat win while only Staechmann (twice) and Mogridge (once) could win a race for Stoke.
