Newport were without Jason King and reserve Karlis Ezergailis and in their places they had former Wasp Carl Wilkinson at number 4 and Karl Mason at number 7. Once again they used R/R for Mads Korneliussen at number 5. The Isle of Wight were without Ulrich Ostergaard and used R/R for him at number 2.

It looked like being a much better afternoon than of late for the Wasps but, alas, for their fans it was yet another home defeat as the Islanders pulled out a 10 point win in the last three races after the scores had been tied at 36-36 after heat 12. Newport were mainly undone by the Isle of Wight reserve, Steen Jensen, who, after finishing at the wrong end of a 5-1 in his first race, rattled off six subsequent race wins.

The visitors opened with a Craig Boyce win and a 2-4 as Henrik Vedel fell but the Wasps followed with an almost unheard of in recent weeks consecutive 5-1s in heats 2 and 3. Jason Doyle fell in the reserves race won by Lee Dicken and Karl Mason then the Newport guest Carl Wilkinson won heat 3 with Neil Collins following him home for a 6 point lead. Newport fans probably thought this was too good to be true and it was! In heat 4 Henrik Vedel fell again and the Wasps conceded a 1-5 to Jensen and Stojanowski to make the score after the opening four heats 13-11.

Carl Wilkinson fell in heat 5 as Jensen beat Neil Collins for a 2-4 then another 2-4 to the Isle of Wight in heat 6 after Tony Atkin had fallen put the visitors two points in front. Newport levelled again in heat 7 as Neil Collins and Lee Dicken took a 4-2. Steen Jensen won heat 8 and the shared heat kept the scores were level at 24-24.

The next four heats were also shared so the score after heat 12 was 36-36. However a fall by Lee Dicken in heat 11 resulted in a dislocated shoulder for the Newport rider. In heat 13 the Isle of Wight scored a crucial 1-5 from Craig Boyce and Stojanowski ahead of Tony Atkin after Henrik Vedel had retired from the race. They followed that with a match-winning 2-4 in heat 14 when Steen Jensen beat Carl Wilkinson with Krister Marsh third. Just to rub salt in the wound the Islanders added another 1-5 in heat 15 won by Jensen from Stojanowski. Jensen had replaced Craig Boyce who had been brought down by Carl Wilkinson who was excluded as a result.
