Although Reading had a match yesterday against Newport this was clearly a cobweb duster before the Racers had an official match at Smallmead. The Reading Past team turned out to be pretty toothless managing only one race win all night.

You would imagine that with a score in the sixties and the opposition registering only one race winner all night that a number of riders would have score a maximum for the home side but only Danny Bird remained unbeaten by an opponent. Matej Zagar spoiled his chances when he had an engine failure in heat 13 and Andrew Appleton was beaten by Glen Cunningham when the ex-Racer was on a TR. Mathieu Tressarieu’s paid maximum disappeared when he was beaten into third place by Ray Morton in heat 12.

The match was a bit of a procession with the home side winning all of the first four heats to open up an 18-6 lead before Phil Morris took a TR and finished second to Andrew Appleton in heat 5 for a 4-4. Two more 4-2s to the current Racers took them to 30-14 before the Racers Past side shared heat 8 after Chris Mills had retired and then in heat 9 Glenn Cunningham’s 6 point TR produced a 3-6 to take the score to 36-23.

The only other heat the visitors shared was heat 13 and that was due to a Matej Zagar engine failure.
