It was a points bonanza for Sheffield as they rattled up 60 points against the depleted Stoke Potters at Owlerton. Strangely enough, however, Sheffield only managed three 5-1 heat wins with eight of their heat advantages coming from 4-2s. A share of the points in heat 3, won by Robbie Kessler, was the only heat Stoke did not lose of the first six races after which the score was 25-11.

Alan Mogridge won heat 7 when he inflicted the only defeat all night on Andre Compton for a second shared heat for Stoke but another four 4-2s followed for Sheffield who took the score to 44-22 before Stoke stemmed the tide again. Heat 12 would have been yet another 4-2 to Sheffield but for the fact that Robbie Kessler, who finished second to Richard Hall, was on a TR so the points were shared 4-4. Sean Wilson’s maximum hopes ended in heat 13 when he finished third to Andre Compton and Jan Staechmann for another 4-2 to Sheffield. Then Stoke had their one success of the night.

Alan Mogridge took a TR in heat 14 and won the race from Ricky Ashworth and Paul Cooper but received no support from his partner, Rob Grant, so Stoke’s success was limited to a 3-6 taking the score to 55-34. Sheffield took the 5-1 from Sean Wilson and Andre Compton in heat 15 from Alan Mogridge and Jan Staechmann to ensure the Tigers hit the 60 point mark.

Rider replacement rides for Paul Pickering produced just 4 points for the Potters although Alan Mogridge fell taking the TR in heat 5. In addition to that handicap the Stoke reserves didn’t help much failing to beat an opponent. For Sheffield it was a solid performance all round. Kyle Legault may have been a bit dismayed to find that his 5+1 return from four rides still made him his side’s lowest scorer! Although he scored a paid win in heat 2 he was the only Sheffield rider who did not actually win a race.
